Consumer Advocacy
Space
Consumers are provided with advocates who inform them of their rights, and represent them to ensure that they obtain the services to which they are entitled. Such services may be (but are not limited to) Social Security Benefits; Medicare and Medicaid; access to transportation; employment training and affordable housing programs.

Community Advocacy
Space
Efforts are made to effect positive change through interaction with local policy makers. TAP also encourages public and private establishments to remove architectural barriers from their facilities (as is required by Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act) to ensure that persons with disabilities have equal access to their communities.

Information and Referral
Space
Immediate data is offered on hundreds of available community resources or services. This includes information considered necessary to adequately respond to the request (e.g. location of services, available transportation, eligibility criteria, contact person, etc.)

Cross Disability Peer Support
Space
Peer support is provided to persons who need to speak with someone about their personal needs and concerns. Emphasis is placed on providing consumers with a qualified counselor with a lifelong disability.

As with all our programs, any person with a disability is eligible for peer counseling.

Independent Living Training
Space
Individuals are counseled on how to successfully live independently through training in money management, their rights according to ADA, making the use of available public and private community resources (Duke Power, Bell South, Medicare, Social Security, Social Services, DVRS, private and public transportation programs, etc.

Housing Referrals
Space
Assistance is given to persons with disabilities and their families in locating adequate affordable and accessible housing to meet their temporary and long range needs. The assistance may be in the form of information and referral, directing consumers to prospective housing, and assisting them in the selection of available housing.
